# 1969 Missing Gold in Margin Error
|
Very Fine mint Never Hinged full sheet of 25 the 2003 "Year of the Ram" Lunar New Year 48c commemorative with "MISSING GOLD" in the sheet margin at left. Unitrade notes that the missing gold error was a "progressive" error, with some sheets missing only the gold on the selvedge (as is this sheet), a few missing only in the left column and some missing gold from the left two columns. This "progression" is due to the way that the gold foil, which came in a roll, was applied. If the gold foil roll ran out during the printing run, the lack of gold would progress from left to right on the sheet, depending on where the gold foil ran out. Theoretically, this missing gold in the selvedge error (affecting four distinct and different portions of the selvedge) is as rare as the listed #1969a (missing gold on the stamp). A great exhibition piece with a regular non-error sheet included for comparison. Estimate =
