Worldwide Mourning Covers

The balance of an extensive collection, with 1-10 examples from a number of countries and a total of 90 covers overall, including a few mounted on pages. Includes Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Czechoslovakia, Dominica, Ecuador, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Yugoslavia. Most of the covers have mourning bands around the envelope, but a small number have stamps with the bands as part of the stamp (only). Besides being a fascinating area of postal history, a few of the covers were censored along the way and a couple are postage due or express. Only a few are philatelic examples noted, as to be expected as this was real correspondence! There are several postcards with cemetery (including for pets) or mourning cards for Royalty/Pope. Finally, there is a group of about 40 very modern (post-1990) and mostly oversized mourning covers mostly from Western Europe, many with the contents. Note: the sections from this collection from Canada, Great Britain, France, Germany, Switzerland are listed elsewhere in this sale. Estimate=
