Canada #47 Experimental Precancel. The 50c Widow Weeds with an "Ross" experimental precancel from a single sheet produced by the Post Office Department in 1907. The sheet was cancelled with an Ottawa, Canada circular cancel dated April 29, 1907 and sent to the "Chief P.O. Superintendent" (George Ross) in Toronto. A copy of the original post office letter is included, with the notations: "make any use of this sheet" and "no necessity for returning any of these stamps". This copy has a readable cancel and a full backing of original gum, with a touch of mounting at the side (the letter mentions that the sheet had some separation that might need repairing). It is unclear how this item was ever used towards future development of precancelling. Only 100 copies were produced. Listed in Walsh’s BNA Specialized catalogue at US$500.00 =
