Netherlands - Numeral town cancel collection part I: This remarkable mounted collection covers Post Office numbers #1 to #50, all part of the initial assignment to post offices in 1869, which was done alphabetically. Post offices from Alkmaar to Hattem are covered in this volume. For each post office/cancel, there is the post office number, the town name, a map of the Netherlands with a marking of the approximate location of the place, a brief history of the town and the populations of the town during this time period as well as "present" (date unknown). Sometimes there are cancelled stamps, a number of attractive covers (almost all domestic). There is a page for the two post offices for which there are no markings (#14, #21). A total of 64 covers and 174 stamps. Makes for a terrific study as these cancels became obsolete in 1893. Estimate =
