Selection of issues from 1854 to 1906, consisting of seventy-seven stamps, in mainly used condition, on two pages. The best stamp in this group is #40a, the aniline lilac 6p. Note the Watermarks on the 5p and 8p "diadems" from the top of the sheet showing "NEW SOUTH WALES POSTAGE". This was put there for the benefit of the printer so he would be sure to use the correct paper when printing the stamps. For some strange reason this is only, briefly, mentioned in Gibbons and no premiums are shown even 'though such stamps are obviously much scarcer than those with regular watermarks and are a legitimate variety collectible. For the same strange reason the Australian Catalogues have never attempted to list the Official perforated initials stamps for any of the States. See a few examples (un-priced) at the end of this offering. Owner's 2023 Scott US$475.15 =
