Matched pair duo of Canadian 1898 "Map Stamp" covers, including the "Last Day" December 31st, 1898 (marking the last day of the 3c domestic rate) and "First Day" January 1st 1899 of the new domestic 2c rate. While the UPU rate was lowered to 2c on December 25th 1898, the domestic rate did not change from 3c to 2c until January 1st (making a week where it was cheaper to send a letter to the UK than within Canada). Luckily, the December 31st dated cover was sent locally and qualified for the lower "local" 2c rate (sent within the city of Toronto). An unusual pair, which tell a good story! Previous owner paid over $300 for this matched set of covers over 20 years ago! Estimate =
